The NFSP is delighted to announce a new partnership with MoneyGram, creating a new income-generating opportunity for postmasters and supporting our commitment to helping members build profitable, sustainable businesses.
MoneyGram is a global payments network that enables seamless money transfers through a digitally powered, omnichannel platform connecting nearly half a million retail locations and billions of devices globally. Backed by over 85 years of trust, MoneyGram serves over 60 million active customers across 200 countries and territories. Through this partnership, postmasters will be able to offer international money transfer services through their independent retail businesses, helping to attract new customers, increase footfall and generate additional commission income.
The partnership has been developed through Project One Stop, the NFSP initiative focused on identifying commercial opportunities that strengthen postmaster income and diversify revenue streams. Research commissioned by the NFSP and conducted by Grant Thornton highlighted that postmasters want greater choice in the services they can offer customers.
Following feedback from postmasters, the NFSP has worked to secure opportunities that enable members to expand the services available through their independent retail businesses. Just as many branches now offer customers a choice of parcel carriers and banking providers, this partnership broadens the range of services that postmasters can choose to provide through their businesses.
NFSP CEO Calum Greenhow said: "This partnership with MoneyGram is another step in ensuring postmasters have access to services that genuinely support their income and long-term sustainability. It will help branches grow their income, broaden their services and continue delivering real value to their customers and communities."
Benefits for postmasters
Members joining MoneyGram through the NFSP can benefit from:
MoneyGram has made numerous operational and technology improvements following feedback from postmasters, with further enhancements planned to make transactions quicker and easier for both customers and branch teams.
In addition to creating a new revenue stream, MoneyGram can help branches attract customers who may not already visit their business, providing further opportunities to increase retail sales.
MoneyGram services can be offered through your independent retail business, provided customers can clearly distinguish them from services provided on behalf of Post Office Ltd. Guidance is available from the NFSP to help postmasters operate the service compliantly and confidently.
Helping postmasters grow revenue
A key benefit for postmasters is the exclusive remuneration structure available through this partnership. To find out more, please contact your local NFSP Non-Executive Director or email moneygram@nfsp.org.uk
Simple onboarding process
Becoming a MoneyGram agent is designed to be straightforward:
Most branches can complete the onboarding process within three to eight weeks.
Simple setup with local support
Getting started with MoneyGram is straightforward. Once FCA approval is in place, postmasters can use the secure MoneyGram application on a PC or laptop running Windows 11 or later that’s connected to a printer with a scanner for uploading customer ID when needed and for customer receipts. A local MoneyGram representative will visit the branch to install and test the system, provide training, and answer any questions staff may have.
A phased rollout
MoneyGram is currently being introduced in selected areas of the network as part of a phased rollout. This is to ensure a successful rollout and to build strong customer awareness in locations with the highest demand for international money transfer services.
The partnership represents an important development for the wider membership and demonstrates the NFSP's ongoing commitment to securing new commercial opportunities for postmasters.
If your branch is not included in the initial launch, there will be opportunities to join future phases of the programme.
