On behalf of subpostmasters across the UK, the NFSP is very disappointed by the launch of Royal Mail's new 'Parcel Collect' service.
Subpostmasters act as a salesforce for Royal Mail services, providing expert advice and guidance to customers, as well as a trusted and safe environment to send letters and parcels. So this move to circumvent post offices is a worry for subpostmasters who do so much to support Royal Mail’s activities. Royal Mail have said that this service is “designed to complement post office services” – the NFSP simply cannot see how that is the case.
Any customer seeking to send a letter or parcel will receive the best service by visiting their local post office, rather than waiting for a Royal Mail operative to call on them. Post offices are at the heart of communities around the country and offer a range of essential services – customers can send letters and parcels, do their banking, pay bills, and much more besides. Furthermore, in the vast majority of post offices, customers can purchase everything needed to send a letter or parcel – including envelopes, packaging, tape, stationery etc.
Our message to subpostmasters and their customers across the UK is: "branch is best".
